Day 1.

Hello,

I'm Iris & I'm 26.  No, that's not really my name.  If truth be told I'm very embarrassed that I got myself into some stinking debt - £10,300 in all.  So I'll stick with Iris for now ;)

This 'lightbulb moment' (as they call it on the MSE website) is due to a few things.

  1. A blog I stumbled across at lunchtime, Money Smart Fashion (very inspirational!)
  2. My boyfriend, he's FANTASTIC with money.  And spending in general.  He's a believer in buying something of better quality that will last eternity whilst I spend my days in Primark!  He is aware that I'm in debt but not to this extent.
  3. Kevin McCloud.  Yeah the Grand Designs chap.  I watched him being interviewed last week and he had the same beliefs as my BF.  Buying something that will a.) last and b.) you have a reason to buy!  Basically everything you bring into your home should have a purpose and should be loved.  I want his book but...no spending!

Right so my challenges;

No new clothes for 3 months.
love love love clothes but I have got a hell of a lot already so I started this with a colleague last Monday.  I'm hoping to lose 7lbs but the end of February so hopefully by the 10th March my clothes will be a bit too big so I can ebay it all and buy new smaller clothes with the winnings!
I must use up all the shampoos, conditioners etc before buying replacements.
I always buy new products before I've run out because I'm 'bored of the smell' or 'the packaging is awesome.'  Not anymore.
Spend less on food.
I'm going to be realistic.  I love a takeaway (namely Yo!Sushi at £8 a pop) so banning them outright wouldn't work BUT I'm reducing them from once/twice a week to once a month.  On payday.  My boyfriend is NOT going to like this.  He lives for Papa Johns!

Anyway, got to get up to turn the heating off.  Then I'm going to make some gadgets for the blog :)

Iris x

PS.  All future posts will start with my daily spends in the intro.  Today, I spent £0!  Horrah!

  1. This is such a good idea :) Good luck with the next 3 months! I don't think I could manage not to buy clothes for that long!
